Featured Initiative: Energy Security in AsiaPNWCGS has launched a new initiative focused on energy security in Asia. Asia is a rapidly developing region characterized by spiraling energy demands and pro-active diplomacy to seek out new energy sources. The Asian region has one of the largest growing shares of oil and gas imports and is undergoing a robust development of nuclear power. How Asian countries go about satisfying their energy needs carries many repercussions ranging from impact on global energy prices, to proliferation of WMD, to conflicts with U.S. strategic interests and U.S. foreign policy. The PNWCGS, in partnership with the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), has made its goal to increase awareness of policy makers and the public of the multi-dimensional security impact resulting from Asian countries' energy policies. To implement the initiative, the PNWCGS will capitalize on numerous resources of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and its extensive network of government and non-governmental agencies. PNWCGS activities related to the Energy Security in Asia Initiative include:
