The U.S. Atomic Energy Act of 1954 (as amended) governs civilian and military uses of nuclear materials in the United States. The Act requires licensing for civilian use of nuclear materials and facilities and directs the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to establish and enforce licensing standards.
