Program Areas
The Pacific Northwest Center for Global Security (CGS) supports innovative policy projects to respond to the changing conditions of the post-cold war world aimed at reducing weapons, stockpiles and production capabilities, controlling the disposition of nuclear materials and technology, addressing the root causes of regional tensions, and fostering multilateral public-private cooperation.
A central purpose of the CGS is to develop a better understanding of the threats posed by environmental, energy, economic and public health issues, and to reduce those threats, especially in regions where the stakes of tension and instability are raised by the presence of weapons of mass destruction. The Center has a particular focus on Asia because of the Center's geographic location in the Pacific Northwest.
The following graphic highlights the fact that the three program areas of the Center (human security, Asian security, and nonproliferation) overlap, which explains why solving global security problems often requires a multi-dimensional approach.
